Immigration Policy

Immigration has enriched Britain in many ways, but uncontrolled levels in recent decades have placed unsustainable pressure on housing, public services, wages in low-skilled sectors, and community cohesion. The British people have consistently ranked immigration as a top concern, yet successive governments have failed to deliver effective control.

We believe in a fair, firm, and points-based system that welcomes talent and contribution while prioritising the needs of British citizens and protecting our borders.

Our key immigration reforms include:

  • Regain Full Control of Our Borders

End freedom of movement permanently and introduce a robust Australian-style points-based system that assesses skills, qualifications, language ability, and economic contribution.

Advantages: Only those who will clearly benefit Britain can settle, reducing overall numbers to sustainable levels.

  • Stop Illegal Channel Crossings

Declare the English Channel a national security priority: expand offshore processing, negotiate stronger return agreements, and make clear that illegal entry will not lead to settlement.

Advantages: Deterring dangerous crossings, saving lives, and breaking the business model of people-smuggling gangs.

  • Cap Overall Numbers and Prioritise British Workers

Introduce an annual cap on work and study visas, with regular reviews based on economic need and infrastructure capacity.

Advantages: Protecting wage levels for British workers, easing pressure on housing and services, and ensuring integration is manageable.

  • Reform Asylum and Refugee Policy

Process claims swiftly and fairly, with safe-country returns and a focus on genuine refugees via safe legal routes rather than rewarding illegal entry.

Advantages: Upholding Britain’s proud humanitarian tradition while ending abuse of the system.

  • Promote Integration and Shared Values

Require proficiency in English, respect for British laws and values, and economic self-sufficiency for settlement or citizenship.

Advantages: Stronger social cohesion, reduced segregation, and greater public confidence in the system.

  • In summary, Britain needs an immigration system that is controlled, selective, and fair—one that serves the national interest, protects vulnerable people, and restores public trust.

Phoenix Party Position: We will deliver a firm but fair immigration policy: take back full control of our borders, end illegal crossings, cap numbers at sustainable levels, prioritise skilled contribution, and ensure newcomers integrate fully into British society.
